The Story Behind THOMA

THOMA grew from more than four decades of work alongside children, families, educators, and school leaders. Across classrooms, schools, and leadership settings, one truth remained constant: meaningful learning begins when we recognize each child’s dignity, curiosity, strengths, and capacity to contribute.

Founded by educator and author Denise McConnell-Brown, THOMA brings that belief to life through thoughtful books, conversation tools, and professional-learning resources designed to deepen reflection and strengthen practice.

Children do not all learn in the same way. They need different pathways into the same meaningful experiences.

THOMA creates books, conversation tools, and professional-learning resources that help educators and school leaders turn reflection into purposeful practice. Each resource is designed to encourage thoughtful dialogue, strengthen inclusive practice, and help learning communities move toward meaningful action.

Across classrooms, staff meetings, leadership cohorts, and university programs, THOMA offers practical ways to examine assumptions, deepen relationships, and create the conditions in which every child can participate, belong, and contribute.
